Plan a trip to Barcelona
Beach city + Gaudí architecture + late-night food culture.
Barcelona is a Mediterranean capital where the beach, mountains, and a medieval old town are all 20 minutes apart. Gaudí's architecture defines the skyline, tapas culture defines the evenings, and the city runs on a late rhythm — dinner at 10pm is normal.
Best time to visit
May–June and September–October. Warm but not oppressive; water is swimmable. July–August is hot and peak tourist season. November–March is mild but beach season is over.
How long to stay
3–4 days for the city. 5+ days if combining with Montserrat, Girona, or Costa Brava.
Top things to do in Barcelona
Sagrada Família
Book timed tickets weeks ahead. Add the tower-access option for close-up views of the facades.
Park Güell
Gaudí's hillside park. The monumental zone needs a ticket; the surrounding park is free.
Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic)
Medieval alleys, cathedral, hidden squares. Best walked without a map.
La Boqueria Market
Food market off La Rambla. Go early; eat at the stalls in the back.
Barceloneta Beach
City beach with seafood restaurants. Crowded in summer; lovely off-season walks.
Where to stay
Eixample
Gaudí's modernist buildings, wide boulevards, shopping. Central base.
Gràcia
Artsy, village-like, lots of small plazas and local bars.
El Born
Hip old quarter with the Picasso Museum and good tapas scene.
Quick tips
- →Pickpockets work La Rambla and the metro. Front pockets only, no back pockets.
- →Most shops close 2–5pm for siesta; dinner doesn't start before 8:30pm.
- →A T-casual metro card gets 10 rides cheaply.
